POMONA - Five people were wounded, two seriously, in a shooting at a party at an apartment complex in Pomona, police said today.

The shooting occurred about 11:10 p.m. Saturday at 883 S. Buena Vista St., near Mission Boulevard, Pomona police Sgt. Christian Hsu said.

A male gunman approached a crowd of people in a courtyard of the apartment complex and began shooting, Hsu said.

Five people were taken to local hospitals for treatment, he said, adding that two of the victims suffered serious injuries.

The victims were identified as Javier Acevedo, 31, and David Campos, 35, both of Pomona; Jaime Arellano, 47, of Los Angeles; Diana Campos, 32, of Ontario; and Crystal Medrano, 24, of Claremont, he said.

The suspect, described as a man in his early 20s, ran away, Hsu said. A motive for the shooting was not immediately known.
