2 shot, killed by police in 2 days in Riverside and North Hollywood

Law enforcement officers fatally shot two people over the past two days in Southern California.

The latest incident happened Monday night in Riverside.

Lieutenant Guy Toussaint of the Riverside Police Department said officers were checking a report of a man stealing a car at the Peppertree Apartments.

“Upon arrival, they located the suspect attempting to exit the complex in a stolen vehicle," Toussaint said. "Officers chased the suspect through the complex. Efforts to take the suspect into custody resulted in an officer-involved shooting.”

Police said officers shot the suspect after he rammed the stolen vehicle into the driver-side of their patrol car. The suspect was transported to a local hospital, but died. 

Another officer-involved shooting occurred Sunday night in North Hollywood.

LAPD officers responded to a report of a man with a gun. A woman was parking her car on the street when a man approached and threatened to kill her.

When officers arrived, the suspect was standing in a lane of traffic with a bag under his arm. The suspect ignored officers when they asked him to drop the bag.

Police say officers fired their weapons when the man advanced toward them, threatened to kill them and reached into the bag. The LAPD has not said whether the man actually had a gun.

No officers were hurt in either incident.
