Pool Party Shooting Victim Identified As Rapper Kid Cali
A local rapper has been identified as the man killed when a fight broke out at a party at a Granada Hills mansion.
Kid Cali (whose real name is Justin Lishey) and two other men were shot several times on Saturday night at what was advertised as the "Millions of Models Mansion Pool Party." The 30-year-old Lishey was rushed to a hospital where he died from his injuries. The shooter fled on foot and has not been arrested, but police say they believe the case is "solvable."
"There are witnesses, and we are hoping they will come forward with information," LAPD Deputy Chief Bob Green told the L.A. Times. He added that the mansion where the party took place had security cameras and took "plenty of video."
Lishey was a locally-based rapper who was formerly signed to Jaccpot Entertainment, owned by NFL player DeSean Jackson. On Saturday before the shooting, Lishey posted on Instagram about attending the party where the Chris Brown-affiliated singer Kid Red was scheduled to perform:
"Music is his life, that's all he talked about," Dorthea Devilla, who was at the party and a friend of Lishey's, told ABC 7. "I lost a really, really, really good person in my life and... it really hasn't registered."
Anyone with information about the shooting is being asked to call LAPD detective Dave Peteque at (818) 374-1934.
