The result of a recent survey indicates that people who rent their apartment or home in California are far more likely to vote for Barack Obama in the upcoming presidential election.

According to the poll of California voters by the Institute of Governmental Studies at Berkeley and Field Poll, "likely California voters who rent preferred Obama-Biden to Romney-Ryan, 72 percent to 18 percent," reports the OC Register.

Owners in California give Obama the edge, too, but by a much slimmer margin: 51 percent to 41 percent.

The results of the poll were published by the Sacramento Bee, who explain:

The survey was conducted September 5-17, 2012 among 1,171 registered voters in California, of whom 891 are considered likely to vote in the November general election.

Overall, Californians appear likely to vote to keep Democrats Obama and Joe Biden in the White House, with 58 percent of those surveyed favoring them over Republicans Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan, at 34 percent.

The OC Register posits that the Dem's popularity among California renters "fits a national theme," offering the analysis that Obama is favored by those in low-income communities, and "renters typically fit that image."
