Huntington Beach Library Tagged With Pride Flag After Voters Approve Restrictions

A crowd of people, roughly 50 to 100, huddle for a group photo. People are different ages, young and old, with varying skin tones. Most people have pride flags that they're waiving in the air.

Topline:

Vandals tagged a pillar and the pavement at the Huntington Beach Public Library overnight Sunday with the Pride flag. Police say they're investigating the incident and that no one is in custody.

The context: Over 50% of voters in the city recently voted to pass Measure B, which restricts which flags will fly from city flagpoles to only government flags, the POW-MIA flag and the Olympic flag during the Summer Games. Opponents of the measure said it was intended to make it impossible to fly the pride flag on city property.

Where it stands: A police spokesperson said public works crews will be painting over the vandalism on Monday.
