It’s Food Friday! And today, we’re talking about … a man in search of the best burger in L.A., and some Cheap Fast Eats in Gardena!

Wait, what is Food Friday? Every Friday, we'll give you ideas on what to eat, where to go and what to cook — plus the people and stories behind the dishes.

Trying 100 burgers in the quest to find the best

Do you remember the best burger in L.A. you’ve ever had? And no, a In-N-Out burger after a night out doesn’t count.

What makes a burger “the best”? Think: Impossibly tender beef. Cheese melting in your mouth. Exquisitely balanced onion to tomato ratio. A special sauce, just for good measure.

But you can’t know the best burger unless you’ve tried it all, so writer, musician, and filmmaker Jeff Alulis did exactly that. Eight years and 100 burgers later, these are his findings.

Is it just me or did this week just fly right on by? I know we’ve been highlighting spooky season events as of late, but for this weekend, I want to point out some other fun events happening in L.A. and SoCal. You can see the full list here. The spooky theme will return next week.

Now to some picks:

  • Los Angeles Folk Festival, Ford Theatre: The Milk Carton Kids are launching and co-presenting the first ever Los Angeles Folk Festival in conjunction with the LA Philharmonic.
  • Felipe Esparza: Big Foo Tour, Peacock Theater:  Felipe Esparza, the first Latino to win NBC's Last Comic Standing in 2010, brings The Bigfoo Tour to L.A.
  • Venice Heritage Museum Film Festival, Main Street Design Center: The one-day outdoor film festival screens a selection of short films celebrating Venice's historical, artistic and cultural legacy.

Also, we have some upcoming LAist events, such as spooky storytelling and one about Britney Spears that you can attend! Plan ahead and see the full list here.
