How To LA: Exterior Prep May Save Your Home From Burning Down (And Other Headlines)

Having recently moved on my own for the first time — and coupled with a bit of worst-case scenario thinking — I thought about the potential scenarios that may strike and how I can prepare for them. These came to mind immediately: earthquakes, a bear getting into the apartment and a house fire.
How to prepare your home
And while I found a lot of helpful resources online, I have another one to add to my list. My colleague Jacob Margolis went to see a demonstration from Orange County Fire Authority, the Insurance Institute for Business & Home Safety and the California Department of Insurance to help prep the exterior of your home for a fire.

If your home catches on fire, odds are good that it’ll burn down. And considering that climate change and poor landscape management practices have raised the risk of destructive wildfires, it’s always worth considering taking steps to harden your home. So now I have something to add to my to-do list this weekend.
