A few hikers discovered a human skull while they were on a stroll through the Pacific Palisades canyon.

The two hikers reported their grim discovery near the entrance of the Los Liones Canyon Trail to firefighters at a nearby station. Police returned to the discovery site and found a skeletal human torso just 20 feet away, according to City News Service.

The identity of the remains has not yet been established, and police wouldn't tell CNS just how far along the decomposition of the body was.

The timeline of the discovery is a little shaky. CNS is reporting that officers responded to the scene around 11:15 am, but Pacific Palisades Patch is reporting that police got the call around 11:15 pm.
