Got a Water Main Break Tallysheet? Add Encino This Morning

Another day, another "major blowout" of a water main line in Los Angeles' DWP system. This one took place at around 2:45 this morning in the 5600 block of Wish Avenue in Encino," reports LA Now. "The cause of the break was not immediately clear." About 70 customers are currently without water service in the break area.
There have been over 30 of these significant breaks so far this month, all of which have resulted in flooded streets and buckled pavement. What's causing these mains to erupt? City engineers are working hard to figure that out, though many speculate that watering restrictions are affecting patterns of usage and causing strain to the system. But will that theory hold water? In the meantime, keep your eyes out for street closures due to these bursts.
