More LA spots to try
  • A new pop-up dining event is teaming up good work and good food and drink for where the 100% of the proceeds benefit a high-profile cause. "Food For Thought" kicks off tomorrow night with its inaugural event, pairing Echo Park's City Sip Wine Bar and Large Marge Sustainables with Medicines Global for a dinner at The Green Beacon Foundation in Elysian Heights, where each of the dinners will take place.
  • July is National Ice Cream Month. To celebrate, we'll be reviewing some of our favorite ice cream spots -- and some new ones, too -- all this week.
  • Vegans who love sweet, chilly treats, have you KindKreme's Brownie Sundae? The animal-free concoction has just been been named by People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) as the best vegan frozen dessert in America.
  • The tagline for the release covering the 2011 Xtreme Eating "awards" list is the very un-ironic phrase "Big eats...big Americans." The annual report put out by the Center for Science in the Public Interest points out a few of the nation's biggest gut buster menu items available around the country from some familiar restaurants. So if you're looking to pack on the pounds (or don't mind a big time gross out) take note of these enormous edibles.
  • Arriving soon at Los Angeles International Airport's Terminal 4: A Gourmet Food Truck. Yep, you read that right. Capitalizing on a trend that may have peaked in late 2009, HMS Host is planning to include a food truck "parked" inside the terminal's "Gourmet Food Court" that is slated to open in summer 2012.
  • This might come as no surprise, but Los Angeles has among the most expensive cocktails in the country, according to KCBS. The info comes to us officially from TripAdvisor, which claims that the average price of a classic cocktail in our fair city is $18.
