Tiki Trucks: Tiki Drinks + Food Trucks = Thursday Nights in NoHo

One year ago, Congress defunded public media. Now that we're 100% community funded, please become a sustaining member or increase your existing membership today.

While the gathering of food trucks in one central place is something that happens every day, there's something happening every week now in NoHo that's worth noting. Thursday nights from 5 to 9 p.m., a handful of trucks are parking outside Tiki No in North Hollywood, and the combo of fun food trucks and affordable tiki drinks in the Valley is hard to resist.

The Tiki Trucks are being organized by Taylor Funkhouser of the awesome Steel City Sandwich truck, in partnership with Tiki No and bar manager Molly Knooihuisen. Now in its fourth week, the weekly evening event is picking up steam, and is worth checking out if you're in the area.

Tiki No has a great Happy Hour, which they've recently expanded to every day of the week, from 5 to 7 p.m. Their signature Tiki drinks are all half-price ($4.50-$6.50) plus they have other Tiki drinks that are always just $6, as well as a full bar and a few beers on tap. The drinks are definitely kitschy and sweet, but the atmosphere is fun and friendly, and the bartender will always work with you to help you get a drink that suits your palate. And you can totally get your food from the trucks, then head back down to your seat in the bar and enjoy your meal with a Tiki No drink.

The food trucks vary week to week, anchored always by Steel City Sandwich, who serve up Pittsburgh-style sandwiches piled with french fries and fresh, hot pierogies. We've caught trucks like the Buttermilk Truck, The Flatiron Truck, FrySmith, and the Palazzolo gelato truck out front. Tonight's lineup, via the @Tiki_trucks Twitter feed is: Steel City Sandwich, Great Food Truck race winners The Lime Truck, The Wien Hot Dog Co., No Reservations Catering, and the Naan Stop.
