By Greg Thompson/Special to LAist

Santa Monica’s Pourtal Wine Bar and Playboy.com’s Imbiber Dan Dunn have teamed up to present The Imbiber’s Ultimate Playboy Fantasy Wine Tour. A flight of eight wines has been inspired by eight of Playboys classic Playmates. At the October 6th launch party, winosseurs sipped, swirled, and mingled with Dan and his Playboy ‘mates’. Pourtal showed the lineup on their high tech Enomatic Machines. The wines remain available by the taste, glass or bottle at Pourtal through the end of October.

Andrea Lowell, Playboy model and Hostess of Sirius/Xm’s Playboy Radio Morning Show poured a tasting of Waterbrook Melange 2005 that Dunn paired for her. Featured Playmate Lisa Semler, née Lisa Welch, Miss September 1980, autographed bottles of her family’s 2001 Semler Cabernet. This second vintage from their Malibu estate shows great berry fruit and, like Lisa, is peppery and well balanced. The delicious photo on the label is from her Playmate of the Month feature. Dunn also demonstrated his writing prowess signing copies of his critically acclaimed semi true memoir ‘Nobody Likes a Quitter (And Other Reasons to Avoid Rehab)."

More Playmate pairings:

Marilyn Monroe & Plumpjack Cabernet Sauvignon 2006: This wine is equal to her stature. The delicious blackberry and cherry flavors are rich, luscious and luxurious like MM. Speaking of luxurious, Plumpjack and its eponymous restaurants are owned by billion heir father and son Gordon and Bill Getty and San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsome.

Bettie Page & Paraduxx 2006: The legendary pinup model was so famous that she was played by also famous and uber talented Gretchen Mol. Like both ladies, this Zin Cabernet Merlot blend from Duckhorn is delicate yet full bodied with great legs. Gretchen is also a blend of herself and Bettie Page.

Jayne Mansfield & Sandrone Dolcetto 2007, Piedmont: Like Jane, the wine is well structured, sweet and sumptuous. Robert Parker describes the wine as gorgeous and perfumed (like Jane). Its dark fruit flavors paired nicely with the Fig & Buratta flatbread.

Pam Anderson & Bad Boy Red by Rocca Family Vineyards Napa: Pam clearly has a thing for bad boys. From bad boy Kid Rock to Rocca Bad Boy. This bad boy is scandalously delicious. A bold berry flavored blend of Cabernets and Petit Verdot that is a big as………

Jenny McCarthy & “The Maverick”: Like the name of this Four Vines Amador County wine, Jenny’s career has shown her to be a Maverick. Like Jenny, this blend of Zin, Syrah, and Carignane is earthy and spicy.

Anna Nicole Smith & Il Ghizzano, Tuscany: The Imbiber says, “I don’t know why this wine reminds me of Anna Nicole. It just does” . But then he says its ‘warm and spicy and incredibly rich in personality ‘ check. Antonio Galloni says, “soft, pleasing…lovely overall balance. Maybe. A.B. in Di Wine Taste: ‘Intense ruby red color’ (Lips?) ‘moderate transparency’, check. ‘Intense clean pleasing aromas’. Probably. ‘balanced by alcohol, good body ‘ Usually.

Kelly Monaco & Big Basin Syrah “Mandala”: Like the talented “Dancing with the stars winner, this wine has great rhythm and perfect balance. Its powerful raspberry flavor and licorice notes make you want to get up and boogie. The tannins are silky, the finish as revealing as the eye popping outfits Kelly wore on the show”. (The Imbiber)

Upcoming Pourtal Wine Bar Enomatic tours, include ‘Whites 101’ and Wines along the Coast of California on the 101.
