Although I usually write about art, here on LAist, I jumped at the chance to join in on a group project of reviewing restaurants in Thai Town.

All these cool, different types of people writing about L.A. because they love it, gives me a warm fuzzy feeling inside.

And speaking of warm fuzzy feelings, I sure lucked out with the restaurant I was assigned. Ord Noodle, is a very homey, neighborhood kinda place. Decked out in soothing canary yellow walls complete with cool Eames chairs, this is my new Thai restaurant of choice.

Taking my boyfriend with me, we were greeted at the door immediately by a friendly smiling young man, who sat us right near the window.

Although they are known for their noodle soups, I wasn’t in a soup mood that day so I ordered the rice with ground pork and sweet basil (spicy, of course). My boy played it safe with the veggie Pad Thai with no egg, and we both ordered some yummy Thai iced tea.

Join us after the jump for a peek at some of the delicious food...

The food arrived at our table within a few minutes, and boy was it good! My pork rice got spicier with every bite, but was easily quenched by the Thai iced tea; and the Pad Thai was excellent as well, better than any I’ve had in quite awhile.

Looking around the restaurant, it was clear that a lot of people there were regulars, and seemed to know the staff and other patrons well, giving it an almost “Cheers” like quality. I also saw a few people happily dining alone, making me feel comfortable about doing the same in the future.

The bill came to about $17.00 & we were out in 1/2 an hour.

Ord Noodle is a gem; nice people, good food and most importantly it’s friggin’ cheap ( the highest price on the menu is $6)! I highly recommend this little Thai Town spot. In fact, I think I’ll be picking up some take-out tonight, because writing this up has made me hungry for more!

At LAist, we believe in journalism without censorship and the right of a free press to speak truth to those in power. Our hard-hitting watchdog reporting on local government, climate, and the ongoing housing and homelessness crisis is trustworthy, independent and freely accessible to everyone thanks to the support of readers like you.

But the game has changed: Congress voted to eliminate funding for public media across the country. Here at LAist that means a loss of $1.7 million in our budget every year. We want to assure you that despite growing threats to free press and free speech, LAist will remain a voice you know and trust. Speaking frankly, the amount of reader support we receive will help determine how strong of a newsroom we are going forward to cover the important news in our community.

We’re asking you to stand up for independent reporting that will not be silenced. With more individuals like you supporting this public service, we can continue to provide essential coverage for Southern Californians that you can’t find anywhere else. Thank you for your generous support and belief in the value of independent news.
