With our free press under threat and federal funding for public media gone, your support matters more than ever. Help keep the LAist newsroom strong, become a monthly member or increase your support today.

Stone Brewing's Company Store officially opens tomorrow in Pasadena. But this isn't a bar. The 16 year-old company's first L.A. establishment will operate more like a wine tasting room, offering small samples, growler fills, bottle sales, and keg rentals of their award-winning beers, as well as a selection of brand merch. There will also be special pours of limited edition brews in the Pasadena storefront, like the wildly popular Mint Chocolate Imperial Stout that sold out last week.

Stone will join the likes of Pasadena's sizeable beer scene, including Haven Gastropub, Lucky Baldwin's, and Craftsman Brewing, which was established in 1995.

Stone's chief executive and co-founder Greg Koch used to live in LA himself, and acknowledged in a recent L.A Times piece that even though our city's craft beer scene is younger than San Diego's, there's a lot going on here, and he's happy to have Stone in the mix.

The Escondido-based brewery's storefront quietly soft opened a few weeks ago, but the hours have been eratic as they are finding their footing. The official celebration of the grand opening tomorrow. From there on out, hours are Sunday through Thursday 11 a.m. to 9 p.m., and Friday and Saturday 11 a.m. to 10 p.m.

At LAist, we believe in journalism without censorship and the right of a free press to speak truth to those in power. Our hard-hitting watchdog reporting on local government, climate, and the ongoing housing and homelessness crisis is trustworthy, independent and freely accessible to everyone thanks to the support of readers like you.

But the game has changed: Congress voted to eliminate funding for public media across the country. Here at LAist that means a loss of $1.7 million in our budget every year. We want to assure you that despite growing threats to free press and free speech, LAist will remain a voice you know and trust. Speaking frankly, the amount of reader support we receive will help determine how strong of a newsroom we are going forward to cover the important news in our community.

We’re asking you to stand up for independent reporting that will not be silenced. With more individuals like you supporting this public service, we can continue to provide essential coverage for Southern Californians that you can’t find anywhere else. Become a monthly member today to help sustain this mission.

Thank you for your generous support and belief in the value of independent news.
