Shave Ice Alert: Sweet Crush Ice Bar Opens in Brentwood
An ice cream alternative opens in Brentwood today, hoping to woo the masses away from the oh-so-popular froyo shops that dot most major streets in L.A.
Sweet Crush Ice Bar will be taking traditional Taiwanese/Asian shave ices and adding a froyo bar twist. They'll serve dairy-based and fruit-based flavors with a variety of traditional and not-so-traditional toppings and sauces for an extra 50 cents. The shop imported two different machines from Asia to achieve the desired snowy effect. The milk-based flavors are made by placing a block of frozen flavored ice on block an then shearing it off into ribbons. The fruit-based flavors are made by infusing frozen water with a lightly-sweetened fruit juice, then shave it into tiny flakes with a separate machine.
It remains to be seen how this stacks up to shave ice aces Class 302 in Rowland Heights or Arcadia's Tasty to go, but it's nice to have an option closer to the Westside.
Like most frozen yogurt joints, they'll be open late: Hours are Monday through Friday, 11:30 a.m. to 11:00 p.m., and Saturday through Sunday, 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 a.m.
