Santa Monica's Dunkin Donuts Will Open This Month [Updated]

East Coast coffee and donut chain Dunkin Donuts has been making their move on SoCal, first with a shop on Camp Pendleten, then one in Barstow and a third in San Diego. Now, the company has announced that their Santa Monica location will be open this month on Sept. 2. (See update below). The news came via the shop's new an imposter's Twitter account, @dunkinsamo, in reply to one Dunkin fan who inquired about the opening date.
She is ordering an iced mocha, if you were wondering. The new shop is located at 1132 Wilshire Boulevard near 12th Street.
This isn't the only Dunkin location we can expect. The company announced that it would be opening 1,000 new storefronts in California, Eater LA reports. Some of these will be more like traditional restaurants that will also service non-breakfast sandwiches. However, Dunkin CEO Nigel Travis told CNBC that these sandwiches should be considered snacks, not lunch. Dunkin has plans to open four more locations in Whittier, Downey, Long Beach and Modesto this year.
Update, August 29, 1:20 p.m.: LA Weekly reports that the Santa Monica Dunkin' Donuts will launch on Sept. 2 at 5 a.m. The first person in line will get the prize of having free coffee for the year, and the first 100 will get free swag.
Update, August 7, 2:15 p.m.: We have been informed that while the Santa Monica Dunkin Donuts is looking at opening this month, that's actually not their Twitter. The real account is @DunkinLA. Who is @dunkinsamo? That's a mystery, but we will be getting a finalized date from the real Dunkin team soon, and we'll let you know what it is.
