One year ago, Congress defunded public media. Now that we're 100% community funded, please become a sustaining member or increase your existing membership today.

Monterey Park is getting its first monthly (and free) MPK Night Market this Friday, and the folks behind the project have been teasing us with photos of some delicious-looking grub that their vendors will be whipping up.

At Barnes Park from 5:00 p.m. to 10:30 p.m., folks will be getting to sample bevy of items from food trucks and vendors. (There will also be shopping and live entertainment at the event.) Ben Kang of KCM Agency (which also organized April's KTOWN Night Market) is running this event with the Monterey Park Chamber of Commerce. He tells LAist that some of his favorites dishes that will be getting served at the event include Sticky Rice's sticky rice burgers (where the buns are made from Thai sticky rice), The Original Ice Cream Lab's liquid nitrogen ice cream, and Pop'd Up/Puffect Bakery's milk tea Popsicles.

Also included on the lineup are: The Mighty Boba Truck, Fluff Ice, Carb & Nation, Swirls Potato & Lemonade, Tanota Takoyaki, IOTA Brew Cafe, Aunty Merry Indochine Cuisine, Ta Bom Truck, Dia de los Percos, Rock n Lou’s Pizza, The Hungry Nomad Truck, The No.1 Currywurst Truck of Los Angeles, The Surfer Taco Truck, Rolling Burger Barns, Bollywood Bites, Romolo’s Italian Cuisine, Asian Cravings, Street Kings Gourmet Food Truck, GP Bakery, Roll’n Lobster, Be Waffle, and What The Funnel.

MPK Night Market has been posting Instagram photos of some of the items you can expect at the fest, like the Sticky Rice Burger:

And Street Kings GFT's glazed donut chicken sandwich with cheese and bacon (if your heart can take it):

According to Pasadena Star News, there will be a Beatles tribute band called Abbey Road performing in the Barnes Park Amphitheater, the same place as the beer and wine garden (which costs $2 for admission). Concurrently, the city's farmers market will be running next to the MPK Night Market, at the library on Ramona Avenue, from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m.

The next MPK Night Market events are scheduled for August 22 and Septemer 19.

Barnes Park is located at 350 S. McPherrin Ave. in Monterey Park. For more information on the event, visit MPK Night Market's website here.

One year ago, Congress voted to defund public media, eliminating a critical $1.7 million from our budget every year going forward. But they couldn’t silence us, and we’re not going anywhere. LAist is now 100% community funded and that means we’re taking our future into our own hands and turning to you to keep local reporting strong.

You come to LAist because you want independent reporting and trustworthy local information. Our nonprofit newsroom doesn’t answer to shareholders looking to turn a profit. Instead, we answer to you and our communities. We are free to follow facts wherever they lead and to hold power to account without fear or favor.
