Congress has cut federal funding for public media — a $3.4 million loss for LAist. We count on readers like you to protect our nonprofit newsroom. Become a monthly member and sustain local journalism.

Dear god yes. In a move that'd make Gary Vaynerchuk squee, the folks over at the new Glazed Donut Bistro in West Hollywood are going to be hosting donut and wine pairings.

Chef Gena Lora, who was previously a 12-year pastry teacher at Le Cordon Bleu in Pasadena, will be making up her outrageously creative fried balls of dough -- both savory and sweet -- to be matched with wines like sauvignon blanc, sparkling rose, and torrontes.

Having been to a breakfast food and wine pairing seminar at last year's Barbados Food, Wine, And Rum Festival, we can say that though it might seem unlikely, red velvet pancakes do indeed pair well with a brut rose, believe it or not. Same goes for chicken and waffles with moscato. So, why not?

Glazed Donut Bistro stands out not only for it's wild flavor combos, but also because of its creative savory donuts menu, including items such as the Fried Chicken Beignet to the Shrimp Roll (Lora's take on a New England Lobster Roll). Lora even breaks up donuts and makes them into croutons for her Chicken and Gouda Salad.

The first official wine pairing will take place on Thursday, April 10 from 6:30- 8:30 p.m. But if you want to do your own DIY version on the cheap, you can head over for some experimental research during happy hour. Glazed Donut Bistro is currently offering two for one mimosas on weekends, and two for one beer specials on Monday and Tuesday. They'll also be doing a donut and beer parking on the 22 with Angel City Brewing.

The flight is $12, and you can buy suggested individualized cake donut pairings for $2 and yeast donuts for $4.There will also be apps on offer, too. The official menu has yet to be finalized, but when they have we'l be sure to update details here. For more info visit their site here.

As Editor-in-Chief of our newsroom, I’m extremely proud of the work our top-notch journalists are doing here at LAist. We’re doing more hard-hitting watchdog journalism than ever before — powerful reporting on the economy, elections, climate and the homelessness crisis that is making a difference in your lives. At the same time, it’s never been more difficult to maintain a paywall-free, independent news source that informs, inspires, and engages everyone.

Simply put, we cannot do this essential work without your help. Federal funding for public media has been clawed back by Congress and that means LAist has lost $3.4 million in federal funding over the next two years. So we’re asking for your help. LAist has been there for you and we’re asking you to be here for us.

We rely on donations from readers like you to stay independent, which keeps our nonprofit newsroom strong and accountable to you.

No matter where you stand on the political spectrum, press freedom is at the core of keeping our nation free and fair. And as the landscape of free press changes, LAist will remain a voice you know and trust, but the amount of reader support we receive will help determine how strong of a newsroom we are going forward to cover the important news from our community.

Please take action today to support your trusted source for local news with a donation that makes sense for your budget.

Thank you for your generous support and believing in independent news.
