More Great Breakfast News: The Waffle Opens in Hollywood
If you've been enjoying our Wake Up LA: Breakfast Series this month, you're sure to be excited about the latest restaurant opening up in Hollywood: The Waffle. This new comfort-food "hipster" diner, with a menu by chef Scooter Kanfer-Cartmill, is already receiving fairly positive reviews only a few days in.
It's open 22 hours a day on weekends (convenient for the Cahuenga party-goer), serving up a hearty diner menu that is, yes, heavy on the waffles. But sticky bun waffles? Applewood bacon waffles? Corn jalapeno waffles? Even a gluten-free waffle! I'm also very interested in the hash brown dishes, including hash smothered in gravy or topped with smoked salmon and cream cheese.
The Waffle isn't just about breakfast, however: you can also get your fill of burgers, shakes, gravy fries, and old-fashioned iceberg-wedge salads. They also have a whole vegetarian section on the menu for you green beans, with faked-out Rubens, BLTs, and club sandwiches. They'll be kicking their dinner service into high gear soon, and the space even has an upstairs bar!
Our inside source checked out the place yesterday, and while the service was slow, he gave high marks to the waffle-cut fries. EaterLA and LA Times entertainment writer Elina Shatkin are also talking about the joint. Shatkin writes of the decor:
retro-modern and painted brown, ochre and pale yellow like a 1970s kitchen (where's that avocado green refrigerator?). The 70s theme continues upstairs in a lounge that looks like the cousin of The Regal Beagle from "Three's Company."
70's kitsch notwithstanding, we'll go anywhere that promises breakfast, booze, and applewood-smoked bacon....

At LAist, we believe in journalism without censorship and the right of a free press to speak truth to those in power. Our hard-hitting watchdog reporting on local government, climate, and the ongoing housing and homelessness crisis is trustworthy, independent and freely accessible to everyone thanks to the support of readers like you.
But the game has changed: Congress voted to eliminate funding for public media across the country. Here at LAist that means a loss of $1.7 million in our budget every year. We want to assure you that despite growing threats to free press and free speech, LAist will remain a voice you know and trust. Speaking frankly, the amount of reader support we receive will help determine how strong of a newsroom we are going forward to cover the important news in our community.
We’re asking you to stand up for independent reporting that will not be silenced. With more individuals like you supporting this public service, we can continue to provide essential coverage for Southern Californians that you can’t find anywhere else.
