LAist Cookie Exchange: Spice Krispies

This story is free to read because readers choose to support LAist. If you find value in independent local reporting, make a donation to power our newsroom today.

Once you try these, you'll never eat a plain rice krispy treat again! These spicy alternatives to the sweet treat we all know and love will win you many fans and they will never (ever!) suspect that they're the easiest things to make! How easy? Check it out:

Ingredients:
1/2 cup unsalted butter
1 (10 ounce) bag of minature marshmellows
6 cups crispy rice cereal
1 teaspoon ground cardamom
1 cup chopped unsalted cashew nuts
1 cup golden raisins

Directions:
In a large bowl, toss together the cereal, cashew nuts and raisins. Melt the butter in a large pan over medium heat. Stir in the marshmellows and cardamom until smooth. Pour in the cereal mixture, and stir until evenly coated. Spread evenly in a greased baking dish, and pat down lightly. Cool and cut into squares.

See? So easy. So yummy. So perfect for a little holiday party spice! You may need to hide these once you make them. They have a way of disappearing rapidly once the word is out that they're "cool" enough to eat.

You come to LAist because you want independent reporting and trustworthy local information. Our newsroom doesn’t answer to shareholders looking to turn a profit. Instead, we answer to you and our connected community. We are free to tell the full truth, to hold power to account without fear or favor, and to follow facts wherever they lead. Our only loyalty is to our audiences and our mission: to inform, engage, and strengthen our community.

Right now, LAist has lost $1.7M in annual funding due to Congress clawing back money already approved. The support we receive from readers like you will determine how fully our newsroom can continue informing, serving, and strengthening Southern California.
