Jamie Oliver To Offer Free Cooking Classes In Big Rig In South L.A.

It's been quite some time since we've seen Jamie Oliver in The Naked Chef TV cooking show that propelled him into fame in the early 2000s. Since then, he's made it a mission to promote healthy eating across the U.S. and his native U.K. He's keeping that tradition alive by touring his "Big Rig Mobile Kitchen Classroom" (that offers free cooking classes) on the road throughout California—and hitting South L.A. from April 8 to April 25.
As part of a 40-week tour, Oliver's Big Rig has been traveling to underprivileged communities from Sacramento to San Diego, giving basic home cooking lessons to folks of all ages (including children at least 7 years of age), according to his website. There will be one-hour lessons on DIY pasta sauces, fajitas, pancakes, soups, risotto and even Japanese food. (The full schedule can be seen here.)
The classes, which are taught by community chefs, are funded by his Jamie Oliver Food Foundation (USA) nonprofit and The California Endowment. Folks will need to register for classes at least 72 hours before each course takes place. Parents who are bringing children must also register separately for their kids.
The Big Rig will be at MLK Outpatient Center at 1670 E. 120th St. in South L.A. in front of the North Support Building. You can park anywhere in the lot with the Big Rig. Info on how to register can be found here.
