In Praise and In Search Of L.A.'s Best Ice Cream Sandwich
Before we know it, June Gloom will give way to the hot hot heat of summer--although, come on, now, do we really use weather as an excuse to skip out on an ice cream sandwich? While you can stuff your at-home freezer with boxes and cellophane-wrapped goodies from the mass-produced makers of your childhood favorites, you might want to go out and get a handcrafted ice cream sandwich for a real treat.
Serious Eats just published their picks for 8 of the L.A. Ice Cream Sandwiches they love. Their list includes the new-old reliable Coolhaus, Malibu's Beachy Cream (now with a space inside Santa Monica Place's The Market), and the inventive creations at a popular new-ish restaurant, A-Frame, as well as Mashti Malone, Milk, L.A. Creamery, Sweet Rose Creamery, and Carmela.
Do you agree with their picks? Any Diddy Resse devotees feeling slighted? Let us know who makes your favorite L.A. ice cream sandwich! (Maybe we can inspire the sunshine to come out, too!)
