Truth matters. Community matters. Your support makes both possible. LAist is one of the few places where news remains independent and free from political and corporate influence. Stand up for truth and for LAist. Make your year-end tax-deductible gift now.

Tail O' The Pup, L.A.'s most iconic hot dog stand that actually resembles a mustard-covered wiener in a bun, might finally get a new home—and it could be at the Grove.

The 17-foot-wide landmark hot dog stand that was made popular by Hollywood films like L.A. Story and Body Double first opened in 1946 and shuttered in 2005. It had been put into storage for the last seven years until recently, when it went on a journey to Nevada to get restored.

With the stand all sparkling and new again, the family of Tail O' The Pup's late founder Eddie Blake told The Hollywood Reporter that it's now up for sale. Bids start at $200,000, and the Grove developer Rick Caruso is apparently already bidding for it. If he wins the bid, maybe it could end up at The Grove or The Americana!

Tail O' The Pup first opened at 300 N. La Cienega Blvd. and it was owned by celebrity dance-team Veloz and Yolanda. Blake bought it from the duo in the 1970s and eventually moved it to 329 N. San Vicente Blvd.

You come to LAist because you want independent reporting and trustworthy local information. Our newsroom doesn’t answer to shareholders looking to turn a profit. Instead, we answer to you and our connected community. We are free to tell the full truth, to hold power to account without fear or favor, and to follow facts wherever they lead. Our only loyalty is to our audiences and our mission: to inform, engage, and strengthen our community.

Right now, LAist has lost $1.7M in annual funding due to Congress clawing back money already approved. The support we receive before year-end will determine how fully our newsroom can continue informing, serving, and strengthening Southern California.
