We have it on good authority that the gentlemen behind Handsome Coffee Roasters are, in fact, handsome. That aside, they make damn delicious coffee, as home brewers of their beans and visitors to their previews and pop-ups will attest. Working from a DTLA headquarters, Michael Phillips, Tyler Wells and Chris Owens have announced the official opening of their flagship L.A. location, and their plans to expand to New York.

Handsome is located in the Arts District, and will open in February 2012. More info from Handsome Coffee Roasters:

The roastery and coffee bar will offer customers a look into the entire operation. The space at 582 Mateo will be partitioned by 13-foot glass and metal walls, so visitors one can see the front-of-house retail coffee bar, the roastery and the back-of-house wholesale operations all while enjoying a cup of the finest coffee anywhere.

Owens calls the roasting operation their own "Willy Wonka"-style venture.

"We needed a perfect location to make this dream a reality. Fortunately, Los Angeles fit the bill as a city that cares a great deal about craft, creativity and quality," said 2010 World Barista Champion and co-founder Phillips.

Not long after they open in DTLA, Handsome will open a walk-up coffee bar in the Wall Street area of NYC.
