Halloween candy is great and all, but when we want to go big with treats for the holiday, we turn to our favorite bakeries. From Frankenstein cupcakes to tombstone-adorned donuts, here are five great bakeries around L.A. where you can find cleverly decorated Halloween desserts.

California Donuts

Good luck trying to resist the hypnotizing 24/7 glow of the "Hot Donuts" neon sign at this retro-style donut shop. And when they're pulling fresh Halloween-themed donuts out of the oven, you might as well consider getting yourself a donut zombie—hell-bent on chowing down on a dozen of these L.A. favorites. They're always turning out elaborate and colorful donuts, and Halloween is no exception. From marshmallow ghosts lounging on glazed rings to tombstone-adorned Oreo crumble donuts, there's plenty of tricked out treats to choose from.

Each year, the talented bakers at The Village Bakery and Café go on a Halloween bender leading up to the big day, and this year is no exception. They're stacking the display case with gingerbread zombies, Jack Skellington cookies and haunted cakes. The cakes with ghouls, ghosts, jack-o-lanterns and more will go fast, so be sure to call ahead to reserve or make a custom order. They also package up a selection of Halloween cookies and other treats that are perfect for taking to a costume party or for devouring while watching scary movies at home.

This small-but-mighty downtown L.A. bakery is turning out Halloween renditions of their signature "ding-a-ling"—a grown-up rendition of a Ding Dong. Featuring layers of chocolate cake and vanilla buttercream covered in chocolate ganache, these fiendishly delicious bites are then adorned with ghosts, spiders, pumpkins and more. You can grab them individually, but really, we'd advise a dozen for "sharing." Semi Sweet is also serving up other holiday specials like a box of Halloween cookies, pumpkin cheesecake bars and pumpkin spice bread.!

With locations in Studio City and Downtown, you've got a couple options when it comes to getting your Halloween goodies from these dessert specialists. Whether you need a "mummified" chocolate cake or creepy cupcakes decorated with bloody knives, Frankenstein or your favorite classic movie monster, they've got you covered. Or maybe your searching for some gnarly-looking cupcakes decked out with "worms" and skulls, in which case, you're in luck. They also do "killer" custom jobs, just be sure to call ahead to order so you don't get the axe.

This Santa Monica outpost for baked goodies adds a classy touch to their spooky treats. From pumpkin cookies to bright orange cupcakes covered in creepy spiders, they may not be the most ghoulish, but are still tasty. They'll also bake up some devilishly delicious custom cakes and cupcakes.

This new bakery across from Downtown's Pershing Square serves up all sorts of pastries, breads and other tasty treats inspired by Southern France, and they're adding a special Halloween twist to their Gallic specialties. This weekend, Pitchoun! be serving up ghost meringues or some cookies designed to look like spiders, coffins, cauldrons and bats. And you're definitely going to want to check out their spooky eclairs, decorated to look like mummies, Dracula, and Frankenstein. You can also grab some ghostly cakes, cupcakes with skulls and pumpkin macarons for the holiday.
