One year ago, Congress defunded public media. Now that we're 100% community funded, please become a sustaining member or increase your existing membership today.

Enjoy craft beer, gourmet tacos and retro vinyl this August at one of L.A.'s most beautiful botanical settings.

For two Wednesday nights in August, the Descanso Gardens will host Lakeside Lounge, a rad mini-summer camp for grownups. Chill out lakeside while devouring tacos and sipping boozy snow cones and craft beer from Golden Road Brewing. Local DJ, The Flashdance, will be spinning vintage vinyl and old school jams as you chill out by the lake, play lawn games and try your hand at old school camp crafts. Trust us, making friendship bracelets is way harder after a spiked snow cone or two. You'll also have a chance to take a nature hike through the newly opened Oak Woodlands or just lounge about without any pesky counselors telling you to hit the bunks.

The food for the Lakeside Lounge, which will include both meat and veggie options, will be served up by Patina Restaurant Group. In addition to carne asada, chicken or portobello tacos, you'll also choose from mulitas oozing with cheese, street corn and more. The boozy snow cones will come in flavors like margarita, piña colada and sangria, while non-alcoholic versions include honeydew melon, lime and, everybody's favorite, Tiger's Blood syrup.

Lakeside Lounge takes place on August 12 and 19 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Descanso Gardens is located at 1418 Descanso Dr, La Cañada Flintridge, (818) 949-4200. Activities are free with admission ($9 for adults), while food and drink will be available for purchase.

One year ago, Congress voted to defund public media, eliminating a critical $1.7 million from our budget every year going forward. But they couldn’t silence us, and we’re not going anywhere. LAist is now 100% community funded and that means we’re taking our future into our own hands and turning to you to keep local reporting strong.

You come to LAist because you want independent reporting and trustworthy local information. Our nonprofit newsroom doesn’t answer to shareholders looking to turn a profit. Instead, we answer to you and our communities. We are free to follow facts wherever they lead and to hold power to account without fear or favor. Our only loyalty is to our readers and listeners and our mission: to inform, engage, and strengthen Southern California’s communities.
