Coolhaus And Clover Collaborate For Wild New Ice Cream And Drink Flavors
This summer heat is liable to make a person dream up frosty new ways to chill out, and apparently two of L.A.'s favorite refreshment purveyors are not immune to the delirium.
Local cold-pressed juicers Clover and architecturally-inspired ice cream sandwich-makers Coolhaus have teamed up to create two new vegan treats inspired by each other's most popular flavors. Coolhaus has a coconut milk-based Green Juice ice cream—inspired by Clover's big produce-packed seller—while Clover crafted Caramel Salé, a chocolate salted nut milk that takes cues from Coolhaus' sweet-salty dessert combos. The collaboration produced some surprisingly delicious results that challenge your taste buds in fun ways.
Coolhaus' Green Juice features banana, dates, toasted coconut and spirulina, which adds that unmistakable green coloring and a sweet grassy flavor not unlike the matcha in green tea ice cream. While it definitely leans more toward the savory-end of the dessert spectrum, there's still plenty of sweet to balance. Meanwhile, Clover's Caramel Salé is packed with almond, cashew, cacao powder, Medjool dates, maca, pink Himalayan salt, and water. While it's a healthier alternative to most desserts and afternoon snacks, there's still plenty of chocolatey indulgence happening. There's also a slight zing of salt at the end, which may not be for everyone, but for salty-sweet fans nails it.
The specialty flavors are available at Clover and Coolhaus locations in L.A. starting this week. Green Juice ice cream sandwiches and scoops will be available at Coolhaus' Culver City and Pasadena locations, as well as their trucks in L.A., Dallas and New York City. Pints of the ice cream can also be purchased at Clover's La Brea location. The Caramel Salé nut milk will be available at all Clover and Coolhaus locations (including Coolhaus trucks) and online nationwide.
At LAist, we believe in journalism without censorship and the right of a free press to speak truth to those in power. Our hard-hitting watchdog reporting on local government, climate, and the ongoing housing and homelessness crisis is trustworthy, independent and freely accessible to everyone thanks to the support of readers like you.
But the game has changed: Congress voted to eliminate funding for public media across the country. Here at LAist that means a loss of $1.7 million in our budget every year. We want to assure you that despite growing threats to free press and free speech, LAist will remain a voice you know and trust. Speaking frankly, the amount of reader support we receive will help determine how strong of a newsroom we are going forward to cover the important news in our community.
We’re asking you to stand up for independent reporting that will not be silenced. With more individuals like you supporting this public service, we can continue to provide essential coverage for Southern Californians that you can’t find anywhere else.
