Blue Palms Brew House Announces It Will Close Its Doors Next Week Because of Music Box Eviction

Blue Palms Brew House announced that it will be closing its doors next week—at least temporarily—when the operators of the Music Box at the Henry Fonda are evicted. The tenure of the bar and restaurant housed inside the Music Box was thrown into jeopardy, because it sub-leases its space through the music venue, which shut down earlier this month. Blue Palms was able to negotiate with the owner of the property (and the support of the beer community) to stay open for a few more weeks, but its time has finally run out. Yesterday an eviction notice was posted to the front of the Music Box announcing that the operators would be evicted January 31.
Blue Palms says that it hopes to work something out with the property owners so that it can open again soon once the owners find a new operator to run the Music Box venue.
Here's the entirety of the Facebook message posted to the Blue Palms Brew House wall this afternoon:
As you all know, we have been going through a very difficult time trying to keep Blue Palms open following the eviction of the operators of the Music Box Theater. After the gracious extension from the property owner, we are sad to announce that next week we will have to close our doors while the owner works out the legal issues surrounding the Music Box Theater’s eviction (and procures a new operator for the Music Box Theater). The owner has been extremely kind during this period and is doing her best to enter into a new deal which we hope will include the Blue Palms Brewhouse reopening as soon as possible. We are optimistic that a deal will be reached quickly and that this is only a short term closure. We will continue to update you as news becomes available. We are extremely grateful for all of your support and efforts over the last 3 weeks. We look forward to re-opening and resuming service for all of our loyal fans!
This is a (perhaps temporary) blow to the beer community: Blue Palms was just named one of the top 100 places to get a beer in the country.
At LAist, we believe in journalism without censorship and the right of a free press to speak truth to those in power. Our hard-hitting watchdog reporting on local government, climate, and the ongoing housing and homelessness crisis is trustworthy, independent and freely accessible to everyone thanks to the support of readers like you.
But the game has changed: Congress voted to eliminate funding for public media across the country. Here at LAist that means a loss of $1.7 million in our budget every year. We want to assure you that despite growing threats to free press and free speech, LAist will remain a voice you know and trust. Speaking frankly, the amount of reader support we receive will help determine how strong of a newsroom we are going forward to cover the important news in our community.
We’re asking you to stand up for independent reporting that will not be silenced. With more individuals like you supporting this public service, we can continue to provide essential coverage for Southern Californians that you can’t find anywhere else. Thank you for your generous support and belief in the value of independent news.
