One year ago, Congress defunded public media. Now that we're 100% community funded, please become a sustaining member or increase your existing membership today.

On Super Bowl Sunday, Budweiser used one of their commercial slots to make fun of mustachioed hipster beer snobs and some of them got pretty mad:

If you haven't seen the commercial, here it is. "PROUDLY A MACRO BEER." "LET THEM SIP THEIR PUMPKIN PEACH ALE." And so forth. We're Budweiser and we're assholes. Deal with it. Frankly it's kinda funny, and far less offensive than objectifying women or exploiting homecoming veterans.

"Like many of you, we had a good laugh during the Super Bowl watching a Budweiser commercial that was filled with hypocrisy and just plain short-sightedness," wrote Beer Belly in their blog. Not to take things lying down, the Koreatown craft beer bar decided to resurrect Craft For Crap, an exchange where you could bring in any "crap" beer and get a microbrew for a penny.

This Saturday afternoon you can bring in any Budweiser and get any craft beer for a penny, once again. Take that multi-national conglomerate worth almost $150 billion! And while you're at it, their French fries are pretty good too.

One year ago, Congress voted to defund public media, eliminating a critical $1.7 million from our budget every year going forward. But they couldn’t silence us, and we’re not going anywhere. LAist is now 100% community funded and that means we’re taking our future into our own hands and turning to you to keep local reporting strong.

You come to LAist because you want independent reporting and trustworthy local information. Our nonprofit newsroom doesn’t answer to shareholders looking to turn a profit. Instead, we answer to you and our communities. We are free to follow facts wherever they lead and to hold power to account without fear or favor. Our only loyalty is to our readers and listeners and our mission: to inform, engage, and strengthen Southern California’s communities.
