UPDATE March 29, 2012: The L.A. Beerathon is refunding tickets due to an issue with the State of California and permitting. More info here and here.

Forget 26.2 miles of pavement pounding in your running shoes, the 1st ever Los Angeles Beerathon will have suds sippers taking on 26 different beers on a grueling course of 26 bars.

"The course is designed by a certified Beerathon Course Map Veteran, who boasts extensive experience planning prior Beerathons that only include the most fun venues," the L.A. Beerathon folks tell us. The official list of bars and beers has not been revealed, but we know the course will be concentrated in Downtown*. (Hmm..PS 612? Broadway Bar? Casey's?)

The goal is not so much to finish, but to enjoy great brews and make new friends. (Hint: By bar 26, EVERYONE is your friend.)

The L.A. Beerathon is happening Saturday, March 31st, 2012. Tickets are $55, which will have you checking in at a designated first location, and getting your map and pass, which will get you your brews at the other 25 spots.

*A previous version of this article incorrectly identified the event location as Hollywood.
