First Reported LA Murder of 2009 was in Studio City

A twenty-something man was shot and killed outside a hillside home off Coldwater Canyon Blvd. early this morning in Studio City, the LA Times is reporting. A New Year's Eve party at a large rented house on the 3900 block of Avenida de Sol was winding down as the shooting occurred around 4 a.m.
"By the time firefighters arrived, everyone had left. A police source with knowledge of the investigation described the party house as filthy, devoid of furniture, with muddy, scuffed hardwood floors. Vomit was seen on the patios. 'Picture the aftermath of the biggest college party,' the source said," via the newspaper.
The first homicide of 2009 was in Panorama City--also a San Fernando Valley neighborhood--where LAPD officers shot a reportedly armed man.
