Video: 'The Canyons' Teaser Features Los Angeles At The Magic Hour

One year ago, Congress defunded public media. Now that we're 100% community funded, please become a sustaining member or increase your existing membership today.

We're not sure exactly what beautiful shots from around Los Angeles set to the lo-fi, fuzzy sounds of the Dum Dum Girls has to do with the new Kickstarter-funded, Bret Easton Ellis-penned movie "The Canyons."

But at the very least we're happy to see the side of the Los Angeles we know and love. We hope some of the shots, or at least that vibe, makes it to the big screen (right alongside the simulated sex scenes). There's Rodeo Drive and the Hollywood sign, sure, but there's also the gorgeous old vintage signs in Hollywood, movies theaters in Los Feliz and plenty of neon.

A lot of it appears to be shot during the "magic hour," including a shot of the Walt Disney Concert Hall which looks colorful instead of silver at that time. Frankly, we're suckers for this sort of thing—it looks a lot like the sorts of shots we're used to seeing in our Flickr photo pool. (h/t Curbed L.A. which calls the video "Dreamy Los Angeles porn.")

One year ago, Congress voted to defund public media, eliminating a critical $1.7 million from our budget every year going forward. But they couldn’t silence us, and we’re not going anywhere. LAist is now 100% community funded and that means we’re taking our future into our own hands and turning to you to keep local reporting strong.

You come to LAist because you want independent reporting and trustworthy local information. Our nonprofit newsroom doesn’t answer to shareholders looking to turn a profit. Instead, we answer to you and our communities. We are free to follow facts wherever they lead and to hold power to account without fear or favor. Our only loyalty is to our readers and listeners and our mission: to inform, engage, and strengthen Southern California’s communities.
