Truth matters. Community matters. Your support makes both possible. LAist is one of the few places where news remains independent and free from political and corporate influence. Stand up for truth and for LAist. Make your year-end tax-deductible gift now.

Latin pop singer Enrique Iglesias learned the hard way that one shouldn't just reach and grab drones, even when they're flying around you.The "Tonight (I'm F**kin' You)" singer performed at Tijuana's Plaza de Toros de Playas on Saturday night in front of 12,000 fans when he reached up for a drone buzzing around the stage. A statement from his representative to the AP said the flying device is a regular part of his concerts and is used for aerial shots. "[S]ome nights Enrique grabs the drone to give the audience a Point of View shot," the statement read. "Something went wrong and he had an accident."

Although Iglesias was "semi-treated" on the side of the stage and was advised to end the show, he performed for an additional half-hour and even used his freshly tapped blood to draw a heart on his shirt for his fans.

After the concert he was rushed to the airport where he was flown to Los Angeles for treatment. His next date on the Sex and Love World Tour is in July in Mexico City. That'll give him enough time to heal and practice safe drone handling.

One audience member with really great tickets caught the incident on video. At 0:35 you can see the moment he gets buzzed by the propellors, and thankfully it doesn't get bloody on camera:

Right now, LAist has lost $1.7M in annual funding due to Congress clawing back money already approved. The support we receive before year-end will determine how fully our newsroom can continue informing, serving, and strengthening Southern California.
