LAist loves free shows, spring time festivals, good music and Trojans so we nearly shit a brick when we heard about the USC SpringFest 2008 this Saturday, which will have one bad ass line-up including Lupe Fiasco, De La Soul, Saosin, Del tha Funkee Homosapien, The Aquabats, just to name a few.

If you don't go to USC, then you can locate Mcarthy Quad as, "that patch of grass between Doheny Library and Leavey Library." And if any of the "big name" headliners didn't fetch your attention peep the rest of the list: Young Love, Aceyalone, Self Against City, Brighten, William Tell, You, Me, and Everyone We Know, Fable, The Chase, Anarbor, Minority.

We're going because we want to see Del tha Funkee Homosapien and Aceyalone. Two of the greatest rappers to ever rock the house. Del comes from Oakland, and Acey's from LA and their styles could not be any more different. But they both represent the wonderful deep spectrum of California hiphop, and are both must-sees.

They usually other random festival-ish type stuff going on too. Like henna tattoo and sunglasses vendors, and probably some kind of sleazy fast food: Hot dogs, or pizza, ect. So, bring at least $5 in case you get the munchies.

At LAist, we believe in journalism without censorship and the right of a free press to speak truth to those in power. Our hard-hitting watchdog reporting on local government, climate, and the ongoing housing and homelessness crisis is trustworthy, independent and freely accessible to everyone thanks to the support of readers like you.

But the game has changed: Congress voted to eliminate funding for public media across the country. Here at LAist that means a loss of $1.7 million in our budget every year. We want to assure you that despite growing threats to free press and free speech, LAist will remain a voice you know and trust. Speaking frankly, the amount of reader support we receive will help determine how strong of a newsroom we are going forward to cover the important news in our community.

We’re asking you to stand up for independent reporting that will not be silenced. With more individuals like you supporting this public service, we can continue to provide essential coverage for Southern Californians that you can’t find anywhere else. Become a monthly member today to help sustain this mission.

Thank you for your generous support and belief in the value of independent news.
