TV Junkie: Day 1 at SAG Awards Build-Out - Scott Bakula & Lauren Velez!
Scott Bakula at the 16th Annual SAG Awards build out from Thomas Attila Lewis on Vimeo.
We had gone to the Shrine Auditorium yesterday morning in the hopes of merely seeing the stage get assembled and other activities that go along with putting together Saturday's live broadcast of the the 16th Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards but were happily surprised to stumble upon a welcoming committee that had Lauren Velez from Showtime's "Dexter" and Scott Bakula form TNT's "Men of a Certain Age" among their members. We talked with Bakula about "Men of a Certain Age", one of the best shows on TV right now, he gave us some hints about the rest of the season (Sarah Clarke aka Nina from "24" will be coming back!) and also let us in that he's hoping friend and former co-star Matt Damon will walk away with an award on Saturday.

"Dexter" is another of our favorites, so the opportunity to speak with Lauren Velez, aka Lt. Maria Laguerta, could not be passed up. She gave us some insight on the great rapport the ensemble has as well as the prospect of the ensemble getting (much deserved) recognition at the SAGs.

We also had the chance to walk around the floor, check out the seating chart, the tabletop goodies, chat with vintner Kim Wallace of Dry Creek Vineyards about the SAG Awards-exclusive vintage she brought, as well as check out the SAG Awards Charity Auction items that anyone can bid on - check out the SAG Awards Charity website.
The 16th Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards will be broadcast on TNT & TBS at 8pm on Saturday. We'll be reporting live from the event so check back here for more content tonight, tomorrow, and throughout the weekend. As Editor-in-Chief of our newsroom, I’m extremely proud of the work our top-notch journalists are doing here at LAist. We’re doing more hard-hitting watchdog journalism than ever before — powerful reporting on the economy, elections, climate and the homelessness crisis that is making a difference in your lives. At the same time, it’s never been more difficult to maintain a paywall-free, independent news source that informs, inspires, and engages everyone.
Simply put, we cannot do this essential work without your help. Federal funding for public media has been clawed back by Congress and that means LAist has lost $3.4 million in federal funding over the next two years. So we’re asking for your help. LAist has been there for you and we’re asking you to be here for us.
We rely on donations from readers like you to stay independent, which keeps our nonprofit newsroom strong and accountable to you.
No matter where you stand on the political spectrum, press freedom is at the core of keeping our nation free and fair. And as the landscape of free press changes, LAist will remain a voice you know and trust, but the amount of reader support we receive will help determine how strong of a newsroom we are going forward to cover the important news from our community.
Please take action today to support your trusted source for local news with a donation that makes sense for your budget.
Thank you for your generous support and believing in independent news.
