TV Junkie: Dane Cook's 'ISolated INcident' Premieres on Comedy Central @ 10pm
For every person that says they don't care for Dane Cook there has to be 100 that do - he sells out enormous arenas in every town he goes to. This is what makes tonight's premiere (Comedy Central @ 10pm) of "ISolated INcident" that much more interesting as the LA-based Cook decided to tape it in front of a couple hundred people at Hollywood's Laugh Factory instead of some massive venue. The style is also defined by the fact that the performance was captured with a single camera, using only one unedited take.Comedy Central is presenting the premiere without commercial break which is unprecedented. In "ISolated INcident" Cook addresses some of the hate and vitriol that have been directed at him over the past few years and he does it well. It seems a shame that any discussion of Cook's stand-up work will be framed by past allegations of plagiarism or the opinion of other comedians that "he isn't funny" and we don't think this performance will convert anybody who is in this mindset. While we didn't care for some of the jokes that are dependent upon his immodest braggadocio, this performance is very good and it's great to see the familiar interior of The Laugh Factory compared to the bizarre and characterless performance spaces typical of comedy specials.
