TV Junkie: Video Interviews with USA's 'Necessary Roughness' Cast; Incredible Late Night TV Tonight

Truth matters. Community matters. Your support makes both possible. LAist is one of the few places where news remains independent and free from political and corporate influence. Stand up for truth and for LAist. Make your year-end tax-deductible gift now.

Last week we went to the "upfront" presentation by the USA network so we'll be treating you to videos from the red carpet all this week. Today's featured USA show is "Necessary Roughness" which will premiere in late June, most likely on the 29th. The series (based on a true story) is about a newly divorced therapist who decides to take on football players and celebrities with bizarre yet issues as clients. Callie Thorne of FX's "Rescue Me" takes the lead as Danielle Santino (video above), the would-be therapist to the stars, with Marc Blucas (famously of "Buffy the Vampire Slayer") as Matthew Donnally (video below), the trainer for the "New York bases football team" (c'mon, it's the Jets) and erstwhile romantic interest of Danielle's, and Scott Cohen as Nico Careles (video below), a kind of behind-the-scenes PR guy/enforcer.

What is an "upfront"? An upfront is an event where networks reveal their upcoming programming to current and potential advertisers. They present a lot of eye candy aka actors/actresses from the series for marketing execs to ogle at while discussing their improved demographics data, etc. Sometimes press is allowed to attend these events and sometimes they aren't. For example, I was invited to the USA and NBC upfronts (same company now) but Fox turned me down - not sure about the logic behind that as I would think you would want press to be talking about your shows year round and not just before they air and at the Emmys. Keep tuning into the TV Junkie here as we will have video of cast from "Royal Pains," "Psych," "Fairly Legal," "Covert Affairs," and more. In fact, why don't you tell me which show you want next.

Real TV fans will want to listen to Greg Fitzsimmons' podcast with Bill Lawrence, creator of "Spin City," "Clone High," "Scrubs," and "Cougar Town" - they have an incredibly funny (and informative) discussion about TV, comedy, friends, etc., a really great episode of a really great podcast you should subscribe to.
---
Tonight's late night offerings are epic - there is something I want to see on almost every single late night show (please scroll through the listings!): Will Ferrell, Jo Koy, Jen Kirkman, Whitney Cummings on "Chelsea Lately"; Anthony Hopkins and Demetri Martin on "Conan"; Albert Brooks and Kristen Wiig on Letterman; Jesse Tyler Ferguson on "The Tonight Show"; the trainwreck Heidi Montag will be on "Lopez Tonight"; Rob Lowe will be on Kimmel; Jeff Goldblum and Sarah Chalke will be on Ferguson; and Chelsea Handler will be on Jimmy Fallon. An unbelievable late night!
