Be sure to read our movie review of True Grit (yes, our eyes also work on movies) and if you feel like gearing up to see the movie, TCM is running a marathon of John Wayne Westerns all day. Just try to not talk like the Duke after a few of those.

Yesterday we posted our Top Ten of 2010 list and received a lot of "agreeance" as Limp Bizkit's Fred Durst would have said. We had to compile several lists in order to make the master list, check them out here and listen to our Channel Zero podcastwhere we discussed our methodology, which basically boiled down to: I liked these shows.

More proof that the networks really aren't making a play to establish Friday nights as a long-term investment for new TV: CBS is moving "Blue Bloods" from Fridays to Wednesday nights. This makes us worry about how much longer Fox will keep "The Good Guys" on the air - that's a fun show that might disappear sooner than later due to its Friday placement.

Make a holiday mash-up of various Comedy Central personas, from Daniel Tosh to Cartman, and send it to your friends via Facebook and Twitter.

Speaking of holiday mash-ups, our beloved Amy Sedaris will be on "The Joy Behar Show" tonight at 9pm (CNN Headline News) to talk (humorously) about holiday crafts. See the video clip at the end of this post.

At LAist, we believe in journalism without censorship and the right of a free press to speak truth to those in power. Our hard-hitting watchdog reporting on local government, climate, and the ongoing housing and homelessness crisis is trustworthy, independent and freely accessible to everyone thanks to the support of readers like you.

But the game has changed: Congress voted to eliminate funding for public media across the country. Here at LAist that means a loss of $1.7 million in our budget every year. We want to assure you that despite growing threats to free press and free speech, LAist will remain a voice you know and trust. Speaking frankly, the amount of reader support we receive will help determine how strong of a newsroom we are going forward to cover the important news in our community.

We’re asking you to stand up for independent reporting that will not be silenced. With more individuals like you supporting this public service, we can continue to provide essential coverage for Southern Californians that you can’t find anywhere else. Become a monthly member today to help sustain this mission.

Thank you for your generous support and belief in the value of independent news.
