Visitors to Disney’s California Adventure theme park will have their final chance to take a plunge on the Tower of Terror Monday. The ride, which opened in May 2004 at the Anaheim park, will be reinvented as Guardians of the Galaxy - Mission Breakout!

According to the Orange County Register, Marvel Entertainment (a subsidiary of the Walt Disney empire) announced the planned conversion at the 2016 San Diego Comic-Con.

The first Tower of Terror opened in 1994 at Disney’s Hollywood Studios theme park in Florida. In 1997, Disney made the film “Tower of Terror” based on the attraction. It starred Steve Guttenberg and a young Kirsten Dunst, and was the first film Disney made based on a ride (you're welcome, "Pirates of the Carribean").

When the California Adventure attraction closes to visitors on Monday, the last riders will be the winners of a contest presented by local radio station KROQ, notes the Register.

A preview video of the forthcoming Guardians of the Galaxy ride suggests multiple “very funny, very exciting, very irreverent” storylines. Also, it looks like this will be the first ride in a “whole new universe” for the park.
