Rooftop Cinema Club Expands To Second Roof Downtown

One year ago, Congress defunded public media. Now that we're 100% community funded, please become a sustaining member or increase your existing membership today.

The Rooftop Cinema Club, which has been screening cult classics and new releases atop the Montalban in Hollywood for three seasons now, adds a second “roof” to its L.A. empire: LEVEL in Downtown L.A. While technically not a rooftop, the terrace of the LEVEL “aparthotel,” near the Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising (FIDM) and The Ace Hotel, opens on June 7, just in time for the summer outdoor screening season.

A different slate of films from the Montalban location will be shown at LEVEL four to five times a week through October. They’re opening with the highly debated La La Land, but follow up with June lineup that includes a number of cult classics and fan favorites like Get Out, Raiders of the Lost Ark, Grease, Donnie Darko and Back to the Future.

The LEVEL location opens two hours before each screening (which depends on sunset) and features those comfy deck chairs and wireless headphones to drown out the city noise. Individual tickets are $19-$30; the Rooftop Love Seats ($29-$35) can only be bought in pairs, but the Loveseats come with bottomless popcorn and a choice of drinks. All events at LEVEL are 21+.

Rooftop Cinema Club’s June Lineup:

June 7: La La Land (2016)
June 8: Get Out (2017)
June 9: Goodfellas (1990)
June 10: Logan (2017)
June 13: The Big Lebowski (1998)
June 14: Hidden Figures (2016)
June 15: Casablanca (1942)
June 16: Heat (1995)
June 17: Moonlight (2016)
June 20: Raiders of the Lost Ark (1981)
June 21: Dirty Dancing (1987)
June 22: Grease (1978)
June 23: Top Gun (1986)
June 24: La La Land (2016)
June 27: Donnie Darko (2001)
June 28: Back to the Future (1985)
June 29: Moonlight (2016)
June 30: L.A. Confidential (1997)

Rooftop Cinema Club at LEVEL opens on June 7 at 888 S. Olive St., Los Angeles. Tickets are on sale today at 10 am.

One year ago, Congress voted to defund public media, eliminating a critical $1.7 million from our budget every year going forward. But they couldn’t silence us, and we’re not going anywhere.
