Congress has cut federal funding for public media — a $3.4 million loss for LAist. We count on readers like you to protect our nonprofit newsroom. Become a monthly member and sustain local journalism.

Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa has clearly had his eye on bigger, more high-profile positions in his waning months as L.A.'s leader, so does he have the same philosophy when it comes to his dating life?

Scandalized a few years back when he stepped out on his wife with Spanish-language news reporter Mirthala Salinas, post-divorce Villaraigosa moved on to cozy up for some time with KTLA reporter Lu Parker. Now, though, the rumor going around is that the now-single Villaraigosa is dating actress Eva Longoria.

The rumor's source is apparently the print version of Star Magazine, who claim Longoria and Villaraigosa were recently spotted “holding hands and sneaking into a late-night showing of Lincoln in L.A.," according to Gossip Cop. (Also reporting on the rumor is KTLA--sorry Lu!)

Allegedly things got sparked for the "Desperate Housewives" star and the L.A. mayor during the Obama campaign, and those uber-reliable gossip rag "sources" say there's been a lot of heavy flirtation between the two.

So, inquiring minds want to know: Are Longoria and Villaraigosa an item? Gossip Cop reports the rumor is false:

We checked in with a rep for Longoria, who laughed off the rumor, telling us, “This is not true. Eva is not dating Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa.”

Ladies, he's apparently still up for grabs!

We rely on donations from readers like you to stay independent, which keeps our nonprofit newsroom strong and accountable to you.
