*** Every Saturday, LAist will feature an adoptable cat and dog from a different local shelter or accredited 501c3 rescue organization. Take a look at these furry bundles and consider giving them a home, or forward their faces to your friends who may be interested. ***

This week's pets, Sage and Sabrina are from Santé D’Or Foundation. Santé D’Or a is a 501(c)3 nonprofit founded in 2003. It is a donor-supported, no-kill animal rescue. Run by an executive director and a staff of volunteers, Santé D’Or rescues and provides holistic care and sanctuary to animals, while working to secure them permanent homes.

Santé D’Or believes with patience, natural diet and supplements (in conjunction with veterinary care), in a nurturing environment, even animals rescued from difficult circumstances can be capable of self-healing in spirit and body. Thus the name, Santé D'Or which in French means “Golden Health.”

Sage is a 5 month old spayed female American Staffordshire mix. Maybe a little Boxer in there, too. Though a shy girl, she does great with kids and other dogs, as long as they are even-tempered. Loud noises startle her so she would do best with an experienced owner who believes is positive reinforcement training methods. She is extremely playful and is still growing into her long legs. She love, love, loves toys of all kinds: squeakies, ropes, balls, and chewies--give her a toy and she is content! She is very affectionate and despite her size (28 lbs) she seems to think she is a lap dog. She would love to find a home who can help socialize her and help her be the best dog she can be.

Sabrina is a 3 year old diluted Calico who is very sweet and loves to play. Her tail is missing (it was amputated after an accident), but she gets along just fine and has recovered completely. She is very affectionate and adapts to anything. She would love to find a permanent home, so if you are thinking about adopting a cat, please come visit her! She is cherished at Santé D’Or and they are confident you will fall in love with her, too.

At LAist, we believe in journalism without censorship and the right of a free press to speak truth to those in power. Our hard-hitting watchdog reporting on local government, climate, and the ongoing housing and homelessness crisis is trustworthy, independent and freely accessible to everyone thanks to the support of readers like you.

But the game has changed: Congress voted to eliminate funding for public media across the country. Here at LAist that means a loss of $1.7 million in our budget every year. We want to assure you that despite growing threats to free press and free speech, LAist will remain a voice you know and trust. Speaking frankly, the amount of reader support we receive will help determine how strong of a newsroom we are going forward to cover the important news in our community.

We’re asking you to stand up for independent reporting that will not be silenced. With more individuals like you supporting this public service, we can continue to provide essential coverage for Southern Californians that you can’t find anywhere else. Become a monthly member today to help sustain this mission.

Thank you for your generous support and belief in the value of independent news.
