Adopt These Pets: Jake & Herman

With our free press under threat and federal funding for public media gone, your support matters more than ever. Help keep the LAist newsroom strong, become a monthly member or increase your support today.

Jake is a handsome older gentleman, 9 years old to be exact, who would love to meet you. He came to spcaLA when his owner could no longer care for him. What a terrible situation for all involved. Jake has settled in nicely, but is ready to go to his new home. To keep him stimulated and engaged, spcaLA's trainers have introduced clicker training to Jake. Come visit Jake at the spcaLA P.D. Pitchford Companion Animal Village & Education Center and see the tricks he's learned, like "touch" and "spin." Jake is an Underdog at spcaLA which makes him eligible for a special adoption fee. Underdogs are pets who are 6 years or older or have been guests of spcaLA for 3 months or longer. spcaLA finds homes for 3,700 animals per year. Find out more at spcaLA.com.

Meet Herman, an adult Chow Shepherd mix! He gets along with everyone-dogs, cats, kids, literally everyone-and he loves to play, or just chill next to you while you watch TV or work on the computer. Herman is goofy bundle of joy in need of a loving home. A gentle, lovable lug-just wants to hug and be hugged! Herman is available for adoption from Much Love Animal Rescue. Meet Much Love's adoptable pets today at the Westfield Century City Mall from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

At LAist, we believe in journalism without censorship and the right of a free press to speak truth to those in power. Our hard-hitting watchdog reporting on local government, climate, and the ongoing housing and homelessness crisis is trustworthy, independent and freely accessible to everyone thanks to the support of readers like you.

But the game has changed: Congress voted to eliminate funding for public media across the country. Here at LAist that means a loss of $1.7 million in our budget every year. We want to assure you that despite growing threats to free press and free speech, LAist will remain a voice you know and trust. Speaking frankly, the amount of reader support we receive will help determine how strong of a newsroom we are going forward to cover the important news in our community.

We’re asking you to stand up for independent reporting that will not be silenced. With more individuals like you supporting this public service, we can continue to provide essential coverage for Southern Californians that you can’t find anywhere else. Become a monthly member today to help sustain this mission.

Thank you for your generous support and belief in the value of independent news.
