Photos: The Cute Dogs & Cats Of This Weekend's Super Adoption

With our free press under threat and federal funding for public media gone, your support matters more than ever. Help keep the LAist newsroom strong, become a monthly member or increase your support today.

The NKLA Super Adoption is happening this weekend, featuring over 1,000 adoptable dogs and cats! We met just a handful of animals looking for their new best friend.

Best Friends Animal Society's NKLA (No-Kill Los Angeles) Super Adoption is happening this Saturday and Sunday at the La Brea Tar Pits and Museum. Dogs and cats will be available from area shelters and fees are as low as $50 per animal.

Each animal has been spayed or neutered, micro-chipped and vaccinated. Those who choose to take a new pet home will also receive a collar, leash, food, coupons and other pet supplies as long as they're still available. You may bring your own pets to meet new potential housemates as long as your dogs are leashed.

NKLA recommends that adopters bring your ID, payment and a letter from your landlord stating that you may have a pet. Some shelters will offer same-day adoptions while others may require home checks, and each has their own requirements and pay structures.

For those looking to make a day of it searching for the perfect pet, food trucks will be on site and there will also be a photo booth to keep you entertained.

NKLA's last Super Adoption event was held in May and 520 cats and dogs—as well as one pig and one bunny—found new homes.

The NKLA Super Adoption is on Saturday, November 7 and Sunday, November 8 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the La Brea Tar Pits and Museum at 5801 Wilshire Blvd. in Los Angeles. Admission is free, adopting fees vary.

At LAist, we believe in journalism without censorship and the right of a free press to speak truth to those in power. Our hard-hitting watchdog reporting on local government, climate, and the ongoing housing and homelessness crisis is trustworthy, independent and freely accessible to everyone thanks to the support of readers like you.

But the game has changed: Congress voted to eliminate funding for public media across the country. Here at LAist that means a loss of $1.7 million in our budget every year. We want to assure you that despite growing threats to free press and free speech, LAist will remain a voice you know and trust. Speaking frankly, the amount of reader support we receive will help determine how strong of a newsroom we are going forward to cover the important news in our community.

We’re asking you to stand up for independent reporting that will not be silenced. With more individuals like you supporting this public service, we can continue to provide essential coverage for Southern Californians that you can’t find anywhere else. Become a monthly member today to help sustain this mission.

Thank you for your generous support and belief in the value of independent news.
