New Season of "Arrested Development" in Production TODAY

With our free press under threat and federal funding for public media gone, your support matters more than ever. Help keep the LAist newsroom strong, become a monthly member or increase your support today during our fall member drive.

Not only are we getting new episodes of "Arrested Development," but the whole cast is coming back, and the production got underway today, confirms Deadline, just as actor Jason Bateman promised a few weeks ago, too!In what's considered the cult hit's fourth season, the series will be shown on Netflix (and not on the Fox network, where it began, and was cancelled in 2006).

More from Deadline:

The original’s producers Imagine TV and 20th Century Fox TV are behind the sequel, with Hurwitz, Troy Miller and Imagine’s Ron Howard, Brian Grazer and Francie Calfo set to executive produce the new episodes. Howard also is reprising his role as the series’ narrator. Each of the new episodes follows one member of the Bluth clan, although some episodes may feature multiple characters. Arrested Development will be in production through the fall.

These new episodes are thought to be "a bridge" between the original series and the pending "Arrested Development" movie. There could be more episodes, though, if these initial 10 are successful.

At LAist, we believe in journalism without censorship and the right of a free press to speak truth to those in power. Our hard-hitting watchdog reporting on local government, climate, and the ongoing housing and homelessness crisis is trustworthy, independent and freely accessible to everyone thanks to the support of readers like you.

We want to assure you that despite growing threats to free press and free speech, LAist will remain a voice you know and trust. Speaking frankly, the amount of reader support we receive will help determine how strong of a newsroom we are going forward to cover the important news in our community.

We’re asking you to stand up for independent reporting that will not be silenced. With more individuals like you supporting this public service, we can continue to provide essential coverage for Southern Californians that you can’t find anywhere else.
