Four squared is 16, which is how April 16th, (aka 4/16) became known as Foursquare Day to those who use the social media site to check in to places all over. While users will indeed get a coveted badge, some of the perks of being a customer or visitor are getting tapped into special offers and pricing for tapping a check in via your smartphone, and those opportunities are squared today.

Foursquare Day in LA comes with a Facebook page and a Google map to show you how to get the most out of your checking in. Various bars and restaurants are offering complimentary drinks, desserts or starters with your check in and a purchase, and some spots around town have discounted admission or freebies. Check the map and the list before firming up your plans for tonight to see if you can check into some fun bonuses.

You come to LAist because you want independent reporting and trustworthy local information. Our newsroom doesn’t answer to shareholders looking to turn a profit. Instead, we answer to you and our connected community. We are free to tell the full truth, to hold power to account without fear or favor, and to follow facts wherever they lead. Our only loyalty is to our audiences and our mission: to inform, engage, and strengthen our community.

Right now, LAist has lost $1.7M in annual funding due to Congress clawing back money already approved. The support we receive from readers like you will determine how fully our newsroom can continue informing, serving, and strengthening Southern California.
