Photos/Concert Review: LIGHTS (and Her Keytar) at the Fox Theater and Club Nokia
When LAist interviewed songstress/comic book aficionado/World of Warcraft enthusiast LIGHTS last year, she had just finished traversing the country on the Warped Tour. Earlier this month, she came back through town with gigs at the Fox Theater and Club Nokia in support of Owl City (who just remixed her song "Saviour"—see below for the video).
LIGHTS fans were out in full force, with some showing up at 8 a.m. to be first in line for a meet-and-greet a few hours before the show. By the time LIGHTS took the stage, the venues were packed on both nights and the crowds went crazy when she pulled out her keytar during "February Air." The set as a whole covered most of her full-length album, The Listening, and the Fox Theater show even included a few playful bars of the theme from Beverly Hills Cop.
One great thing about LIGHTS is although she's adept at crafting songs that incorporate electronic elements, her voice is so strong and pitch-perfect that she's the last person in need of autotune. She took advantage of the new sound system at Club Nokia by performing a stripped down version of "Pretend," and the voice and piano arrangement provided ample space for her vocals to shine.
