It's the FINAL DAY of our June Member Drive and we are behind on our goal to keep local news strong for the coming months. Your support today keeps our reporters ready to meet the needs of our city. Plus, your gift's impact will be twice as strong because it will be matched dollar for dollar!

Cleveland Indians defeat LA Angels 3-2. Prior to the game, Manager Mike Scioscia named Scott Downs as the new closer replacing Jordan Walden. Too bad it didn't matter in this game. After Jered Weaver tossed six innings of shutout ball staked to a 2-0 lead, Hisanori Takahashi was charged with the tying runs. The bullpen held strong until rookie David Carpenter gave up the winning run on Asdrubal Cabrera's single. Of note was Cabrera's bat flip after hitting the game winner.

After the game, the Angels released outfielder and designated hitter Bobby Abreu and called up outfielder Mike Trout from Triple-A Salt Lake City. Trout was only batting .403 with a homer and 13 RBI in 20 games with the Bees.

LA Dodgers defeat Washington Nationals 3-2. Andre Ethier hit a homer while Clayton Kershaw pitched eight innings for the win. Perhaps Kings' head coach Darryl Sutter also meant to include MLB when he said that the NHL was a 3-2 league.
