New York Yankees defeat LA Angels 6-5. That's not the way the Angels wanted to start the second half of the season. The Angels had a 5-2 lead over the Yankees heading into the bottom of the eighth inning. Angels starter C.J. Wilson's night was done making 101 pitches through seven innings giving up two runs.

Scott Downs, who had given up only two runs in 30 innings pitched this season, had a horrendous start to the eighth inning: a double to Derek Jeter; a walk to Curtin Granderson; a homer to Mark Teixeira that tied the game. It was Downs' third blown save of the season, but he wasn't done yet.

After Alex Rodriguez grounded out and Robinson Cano lined out, Downs walked Nick Swisher. In came Kevin Jepsen in relief with Dewayne Wise replacing Swisher as a pinch runner. After getting a 3-1 count to Raul Ibanez, Jepsen intentionally walked him. The fatal blow came from Russell Martin's single that scored Wise.

LA Dodgers defeat San Diego Padres 2-1. Clayton Kershaw goes six innings in the win.
