LA Angels defeat New York Yankees 7-1. The Angels jumped on Yankees' starter Phil Hughes, Chris Ianetta opening the scoring with a two-run homer in the second inning. Albert Pujols hit an RBI double in the third inning, and Howie Kendrick hit a three-run bomb in the fourth that ran Hughes out of the game.

C.J. Wilson went six innings giving up a run in the fifth inning , and the Angels' bullpen for the second consecutive game held fast. Kevin Jepsen, LaTroy Hawkins and Jordan Walden pitched three perfect innings striking out four batters in the process.

LA Clippers defeat Golden State Warriors 112-104. Chris Paul's 28 points and 13 assists led the Clippers over the Warriors. Of course when a team gets out to a 24-5 lead in the first quarter, it should be an easy game. But the Warriors did cut the lead to only one point at halftime thanks to nailing 11 three-pointers.

LA Dodgers defeat San Diego Padres 6-1. Two homers by Matt Kemp help power the Dodgers to a Major League best 8-1 record.

Chivas USA defeat Toronto FC 1-0.

LA Galaxy defeat Portland Timbers 3-1.

One year ago, Congress voted to defund public media, eliminating a critical $1.7 million from our budget every year going forward. But they couldn’t silence us, and we’re not going anywhere. LAist is now 100% community funded and that means we’re taking our future into our own hands and turning to you to keep local reporting strong.

You come to LAist because you want independent reporting and trustworthy local information. Our nonprofit newsroom doesn’t answer to shareholders looking to turn a profit. Instead, we answer to you and our communities. We are free to follow facts wherever they lead and to hold power to account without fear or favor. Our only loyalty is to our readers and listeners and our mission: to inform, engage, and strengthen Southern California’s communities.
